Plantar Fasciitis

What Is Plantar Fasciitis?

The most common cause of deep pain on the bottom surface of the heel is Plantar Fasciitis - inflammation of the plantar ligament or fascia.

The plantar fascia is a broad band of fibrous tissue that normally measuring 3mm-3.8 mm in thickness which runs along the bottom surface of the foot, from the heel to the toes. It is just below the skin and subcutaneous fat and helps to secure the long arch of the foot.

Injury or mechanical foot problems can trigger a chronic inflammatory process which causes a thickening of the plantar fascia. In Severe cases the plantar fascia can enlarge by three to four times its normal thickness causing compression of nerves and pain.

Treatment For Plantar Fasciitis

Cryosurgery is a minimally invasive procedure that can resolve or significantly improve symptoms of plantar fasciitis.

Foot cryosurgery is a specialised treatment technique to provide long-term pain relief for various feet conditions such as heel pain from Plantar Fasciitis and Morton’s Neuroma. It utilises extremely low temperatures, to shrink pathological tissue and reduce pain transmission.

People have recognised the value of cold for as a means of providing pain relief for thousands of years. Hippocrates left us the first written records of the use of ice being used as an analgesic.

Modern Cryosurgery as we know it today was developed in the early 1960’s. It is now used to treat many conditions such as malignant tumours of the prostate, liver and other organs. Cryosurgery has been used to treat foot ailments such as plantar fasciitis and neuromas since 2002. Read More...:
